Welcome

From the Headteacher Miss Holden

Welcome to St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School! A School for all the children of Wigton since 1856.

Have you ever wondered about St. Cuthbert's School but thought it was just for Catholic children?

Come and meet us and you will find that St. Cuthbert's is a friendly and caring school with a strong Christian ethos. We welcome children of ALL denominations from 3-11.

St. Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School is situated in the historic market town of Wigton in Cumbria. We are about seven miles from the border of the National Park so we have the Lake District on our doorstep. Carlisle is close at hand and we are only twenty miles from the Scottish Border. The coastal town of Silloth is ten miles west of Wigton.

St. Cuthbert’s is a friendly and welcoming school. One of its many strengths is its strong Christian ethos. We have a good relationship with the Parish Community and continue to work hard to forge even greater links.
Small friendly classes ensure that your children receive the care and attention they deserve, which can often be lost in larger schools with large class numbers.

St. Cuthbert’s is fortunate enough to have a very committed PTA (The Friends of St. Cuthbert’s). Over the years they have raised thousands of pounds from which the school has benefited. Please keep up to date with events by logging onto the website page dedicated to the 'Friends'.

In October 2008 we underwent an Ofsted inspection. The school was judged ‘good’ throughout with outstanding behaviour and outstanding pastoral care and guidance. The report can be accessed at the foot of this page. The Ofsted team were particularly impressed by the caring nature of our children.

In March 2009 our school had an RE inspection and was again judged to be good throughout. The report stated that 'The school is a welcoming community with a distinctly Catholic ethos. Parents are welcomed and pupils are polite, well behaved and happy'.

The school recognises the value of good relationships with parents and the way in which this impacts on the well-being of the children.
We have achieved our Investors in People award of which we are very proud.

Please take the time to look at our website. Feedback or suggestions are always very welcome.

Below are just a few of the comments visitors have made about our school.  Come and see for yourself .
